St. Basil Bible School aims at the enlightment of the faithful of the Holy orthodox Church. The Bible School provides spiritual training to the lay people of the Church. It teaches the scripture and faith of the church as handed over to us by the Holy Fathers and Mothers of the Church. The Bible School helps in experimenting the liturgical mysteries of the church. St. Basil Bible School and Orientation Centre is situated at a beautiful lake-shore scenic village area of 60 acres of land surrounded by the famous Sasthamcotta fresh water lake in the District of Kollam, Kerala State, South India.

St. Basil Bible School and Orientation Centre was started in March 2000.

The land was donated by Fr. Dr. C. T. Eapen of blessed memory to form a trust with the aim of reviving the spiritual lethargy of the Orthodox Community. Bible classes, retreats and spiritual guidance programmes were conducted on a regular basis at the initiative of the members of this monastic community. These programmes were nurtured in subsequent years with the cooperation of Bishops, Priests and believers of the Malankara Orthodox Church. The origin of St. Basil Bible School and Orientation Centre is attributed to the divine vision of Mount Horeb Monastic community.

His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Mathews II, the sixth Catholicos of the East passed away on January 26, 2006. His Holiness was laid to rest at Mar Elia Chapel, Sasthamkotta, Kerala, India.
